CB500 Racing
During the winter months we decided to add another area to our specialist services and the decision was made to become involved with the Thundersport 500 racing class. We quickly sourced two CB500 Honda road bikes and then proceeded to convert them into race bikes. The riders - Rob Mawbey (Racing Lines owner) and Steve Tomes (winner of countless championships) were immediately fired up at the prospect of racing in a class where the best rider will win rather than the rider with the most money. The Thundersport 500 class provides this opportunity and it is one of the most popular racing classes amongst the riders and spectators and is often the closest race of the weekend.
It is tightly regulated to ensure that the machines are equal and there is a 52BHP power limit and a choice of wet or dry Bridgestone control tyres. The most popular machine in the class is the Honda CB500 which was produced up to 2002. In order to race these machines some work is needed and Racing Lines (Derby) Ltd is able to undertake the required modifications ensuring the bike complies with the regulations. These can be downloaded from the Thundersport GB website. Racing Lines will also improve the bike’s handling with improved ground clearance and the fitting of some top quality extras.
Bridgestone Thundersport 500 - 2012
Ever since Leon Haslam and James Toseland burst onto the scene via the old Honda CB500 Cup (as the class was then known), these humble parallel twins have been producing some fantastic racing at a lower cost than any other series in the UK.
Mallory Park - 12th/13th March 2011
A very eventful weekend but enough positives to think that better results will come at Donington Park on 9-10th April 2011.
